Description

The first Rainbow Pride Flag was designed in 1978 by Gilbert Baker, a San Francisco artist, who created the flag in response to a local activist’s call for the need of a community symbol. Hence, Pride Parades and Festivals happen throughout the year in various cities. Although, Pride isn’t all parades. Sometimes it’s solidarity and helping to take care of our most vulnerable members. Finally, Pride involves community, that’s what makes it.

Each stripe of the rainbow depicts one sector of the LGBTQ community and the queer spectrum. And while there are many, many, versions of the Rainbow Pride Flag, the most commonly-seen Pride flag features six colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

Life – RED   Healing – ORANGE   Sunlight – YELLOW   Nature – GREEN   Harmony – BLUE   Spirit – PURPLE

The final colour in the rainbow is purple, which represents spirit. Specifically, this embodies everything that makes the LGBTQ2+ community who it is. A Pride Flag helps get everyone into the spirit of Pride. Pride involves being proud of yourself. You are wonderful, loved, and fabulous! Pride is about love, solidarity, fun, and freedom. Therefore, it’s not just a parade, it’s a state of mind.
